SL_POP3_IM is an instant-messaging software (like MSN, ICQ, Trillian...) useful to chat with your Second Life® friends when you are not in world. SL_POP3_IM uses your email account (pop3/smtp) to communicate, operating only on your Second Life® IM-to-email messages. Why SL_POP3_IM ? For better tracking of offline chat and smoother operation, you no longer need remove the "history" of the Im-to-Email when you reply and the messenger takes care of special characters. (Especially with the accents in many others language than english) No Hud attachments, no weird process to perform, few management tasks with the contact list, for you and the one that wants to chat with you. (anyone can reach you from Second Life®, it's tranparent for them) How it works Security With SL_POP3_IM, you never have to provide your Second Life® username and password. It uses only your email account, and your login information is encrypted. The settings file is also encrypted to work only on your machine. Installation Configuration Click the "Setup" button. Sending and recieving messages Enter your avatar name and your email address, and provide the same data as your pop3/smtp email account. If you are using an web based email (like hotmail, yahou ...), verify at first if you can use it with a standard pop3/smtp email browser (like Outlook, eudora ...) Auto-quit SL_POP3_IM has an auto quit feature. With this you can define a time when you would like to have it close. This can be useful for those that are using different computers during the day and dont want to forget to close the reader before leaving. Online Friends Status SL_POP3_IM can display the Online status of your contacts that are in your friendslist in Second Life®. It retrieves the information from the Second Life® web site each 10 minutes. But to make it work, you must login to the Second Life® Web Site first. Otherwise the status will never be displayed. Logging all messages By checking this option, all communication threads will be saved in the log folder (in your application folder). Each session is saved for each contact in a .rtf file. How to use SL_POP3_IM: Contact list The contact list is built automatically when you recieved a new message. Chat window When you click on a contact in the list, the chat window is displayed for this contact. Keep and save this contact You can chose to keep and save a contact or not, that means that only the checked contacts will be in your list at your next startup. Capture a contact You can also add or update a contact manually from the address of an email you have recieved before. for this use the Capture Contact buttons. Note: If the key of a manually captured contact is older than few days, it's possible that you can't reach this person, you will need an updated key or they will need contact you first. Skin SL_POP3_IM uses a background picture file (.bmp file). The menu buttons are simply defined as interactive zones. The icons of those button are simply on the background picture itself. So this is very easy to customise the look of the tool. The skin picture file is in the skin folder (in the application folder), it must be a file named: main_350x600.bmp You can replace it easily with any other .bmp file with the same name and same size. To install a new one, copy the .bmp file and override the actual one in the skin folder. You will also find there a photoshop template with the different clickable zones and components on a separate layer to let you design your own customized skin.
